“Hustle isn’t just working on the things you like. It means doing the things you don’t enjoy so you can do the things you love.”-Unknown

Happy Friday, happy February, and happy Black History Month! I love February. It’s short (after what feels like the month and a half long January), feels fresh, and you get to celebrate love (even on my most lonely years watching first graders celebrate love is kind of the sweetest thing ever). I was so ready for today I ripped off the January page of my calendar two days ago.

For many teachers this is the hardest time of the year (so please be extra nice to any teacher you know!). There are no breaks for awhile and time seems to drag on quite slowly. This time of year can feel never ending and I will admit I personally had a rough last two weeks of work. Between a parent not believing the adult to some tough work instances it’s been a bumpy two weeks. But, February is so short and sweet and then March has spring break and after that time seems to move at warp speed. Give a teacher a hug this weekend if you see one!

Things at our house are always crazy and with T’s art show next week they are admittedly worse than usual. We both had the day off work yesterday and off our side hustles were able to make some big steps in the right direction. It felt good to be pursuing what we love in addition to what we do everyday that we both enjoy. I am super proud to report I have made my first 30 dollars of this beautiful website you amazing people support. A couple weeks ago my awesome friend Carly (yay Carly!!!) came to help me set up somethings for the website to start making it a business. I am so proud of this little baby gem I try and curate every week. We have big things coming in February so be on the look out because I have tons and tons of posts I am going to be flooding you with!

I had planned a couple times to head to Black Canyon of Gunnison but after seeing it was -20 I really rethought that one. Plenty of overwhelming feelings have been around lately with the grand question of, “how can I write a travel blog if I’m not traveling?” circulating around filling my head constantly. And really I have to leave it at, it is what it is. It’s all it can be right now and that’s good enough. The power of AND has been instrumental in this. I can write a travel blog AND not be out traveling all the time. I can feel a little uncomfortable with the weight I’ve gained lately AND still love myself. I can want to quit my job some days AND still be a great teacher who loves it. I can be healthy AND not work out everyday.

People are so hard on themselves, generally much harder than they are on others. I say things to myself that I would never dream of saying to anyone else. It’s really sad AND it’s really true. It’s also something we have the power to work on. You can be everything you want AND not be where you want to be right now. It’s all okay. We’re all trying each day to get better and that’s what I wanted to remind you guys of. It’s a brand spanking new, beautiful month that is full of opportunities for us to loves ourselves a little more. Be kinder a little more. Give a little more love to ourselves first.

So with all that, I want to welcome you to February. We’re going to be doing some flashback February posts (thanks Leah for the beautiful idea!), having our first giveaway (get ready), and talking about love love love! I’m also personally going to be diving into some Black History month knowledge that I can’t wait to learn more about. I hope you guys have a great weekend. Treat yourself right, say something really nice to yourself the next time you look in the mirror, and remember how fabulous you are. XxAbby

I love you, Abby!!! And I feel this so hard!! I’m trying to cultivate more positive self talk. The pier of AND!! You are a bright, shining example of hard work and perseverance. #iwannabemorelikeabby

Also, no hiking in -20 degree weather.

Isn’t it crazy how we talk to ourselves ALL day but how little we think about what we say? Doing some major work over here always thinking about you! You’re the inspiration!
